President's Report:

I have some very exciting news to tell you all about. I know its been awhile since you've heard from me. For the past two months I've been traveling constantly to a variety of Catering meetings and Conferences around the Country. My travel's kicked off with an ISES meeting in the Napa/Sonoma area, followed by a quick trip to Alaska to meet with the Anchorage NACE Chapter, then off to North Carolina for the 2009 NACE National Conference (along with Kate Kovalick, Silver Legacy Catering Manager and Julie Nobis, Owner Red Carpet Events, and finally to San Francisco for ISES Event World (International Society of Event Specialists).

SO HERE IS THE EXCITING NEWS!!!! After much hard work from many of our Reno Tahoe NACE members, it was just announced that Reno Tahoe will be hosting the 2011 NACE National Conference at the Silver Legacy. This conference will bring more than 800 Caterers, Event Planners and Professionals from around the country to our neck of the woods. It will be our opportunity to show them how Reno Tahoe stands out from the rest of the country in Catering and Events. Essentially for our industry, this is the biggest fam trip that Reno/Tahoe will have ever seen!!!!   CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE, THIS IS A BIG DEAL!  KUDO'S TO OUR CHAPTER FOR MAKING IT HAPPEN.

On another note, I've been asked by many people,  WHY SHOULD WE JOIN NACE - WHEN WE CAN JUST ATTEND A MEETING AND NOT PAY FOR MEMBERSHIP.  Okay Gang, here is my answer.  There are only a few National Associations that represent our industry as a whole.  National Association of Catering Executives is finally here in Reno.  With more than 4000 members around the country, this non-profit association has a full staff of professionals who are dedicated to making our industry stronger across the country.  NACE National provides a full PR and Marketing team to get the word out in the national press that Companies still need to have meetings (even in a down economy), they are a recognized source that Bridal & Food Publications use for statistics when they are reporting on industry stories.  NACE members around the country are recognized on TV shows that are seen on the FOOD NETWORK, OXYGEN, WE, and TLC.  NACE members are regularly seen on "Platinum Weddings" and "Whose Wedding is it Anyway".

Aside from the opportunity to meet Industry Professionals from across the country who do what YOU do, NACE builds lasting friendships on a local level as well (which is what leads to more sales and events).  NACE members help each other!  NACE members receive great discounts and benefits from the NACE National Business Partners (view the website to see some of the benefits).  And most importantly, the education.  The money charged to attend the meetings goes directly to food & beverage cost of the meeting, maintaining the website, investing in great speakers to attend the meetings, and finally to scholarship members to attend the National Conference and Leadership Events.  I invite you to use NACE as an opportunity to gain leadership experience in our industry, and think about getting involved on a national level as well.  The Las Vegas NACE Chapter has more than 150 members, and my goal is to see the Reno Tahoe Chapter that strong!!!

Membership Campaign:
Congratulations Reno Tahoe NACE Members.  The Spring Membership Campaign was extremely successful.  As a small chapter among the National NACE Chapters, Reno Tahoe WON for most new members.  We earned a FREE attendance at the 2009 NACE National Conference that was just recently held in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Congratulations to Kate Kovalick from the Silver Legacy, who used the complimentary ticket ($900 value) to attend.  Robin Brockelsby of Creative Coverings and Julie Nobis of Red Carpet Events attended the Conference as well.
